Take Action - Pay Equity For Everyone!

Protect Fair Pay for All

Fighting for fair pay isn't so fair any longer. A year ago, the Supreme Court changed the rules for victims of pay discrimination by shortening the timeline a worker has to file a claim. This decision makes it harder to hold the employer accountable and exacerbates the wage gap between women and men.

The wage gap undermines the economic security of all. For young women entering the workforce, the wage gap means a lifetime of lost earnings for her and her family. Our generation won't stand for spending the next 30 to 40 years in workplaces where pay discrimination is allowed to continue on the basis of gender, race, national origin, religion, disability and age. It's time for the Senate to pass the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and restore the promise of fair pay.

What it Means to You

  • In 1963, when the Equal Pay Act passed, women were paid 59 cents on average to every dollar received by men. In the past 45 years, women have only gained about half a penny each year and today women earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. African-American and Latina women earn even less.
  • The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act says that you have 180 days to file a complaint every time you receive a paycheck that is less than what others doing comparable work are making.
  • The Act passed the House last July. Now it is time for the Senate to vote yes on the Fair Pay Act and ensure that anyone who is discriminated against in their pay can get their day in court.
